Artwork Inspired by a Ceramic Sculpture of Humphrey Bogarts Head

This is a collection of various student artwork they did
of a sculpture Miss Barbara has for inspiration of Humphrey Bogarts
face and head with his hat and coat.
It's immediately recognizable as him and a great example for the students to get to do their own representation.
We enjoyed the different ways the students saw this subject.

Who Said, "too many Chiefs?" not when it comes to our young Artist work

Working from a great still life Miss Barbara brought together of a great figure of a western Native American Plains Indian, a tom-tom drum, some horse figures and other references,
the students made art so different from each other showing true creativity.
What I enjoyed was how they each came up with such good background environments for the subjects and the parents were pleased, noting the progress made by their children.
See how bold and free they were in creating their expressions of the theme. Some of these students have not  used watercolor much.
Wonderful artwork and good job!!

Never too late for Art.Some recent work finished later in the week by our students

Here are some more great works of art by the students in Mr. Chris' class which were finished after the last post on the blog.
Thanks for the hard work everyone and getting them finished.
It is so good to see them understand not only what is being asked to do, but also listening to how they may improve their work. The bottom pastel is by Mr. Chris for Mothers Day and to show the students an example of the possibilities.
Keep pressing forward to new accomplishments.

The heat is on to see all the artwork of the week and get the results of how the students will impress Mom for Mothers Day.
Here's to the great start! Way to go to Tuesday's class.
They were to work on black paper in pastel beginning with a single
red pastel delicately sketching in the shapes and progressing to more form and heavier color as the build the finished artwork.
Happy Mothers Day everyone and stay tuned to see the rest of the art from classes throughout the week.
Thanks for viewing!         Mr. Chris Simpson Artist/ Art Instructor

Art with a Summer theme, from the beach to a child with his dog, recent student artwork

Delightfully warm summer colors fill the art here. From the little girl discovering the beach, to how the students interpreted a neat doll figure Barbara had of the character "Spanky," from the Little Rascals along with his dog, petey.  They had fun creating the subjects in their own settings.

Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone from the Barbara A. Wood Academy of Art

These pastels I felt could fit into the "Cinco De Mayo," theme.
They had a neat figure of a man on a horse
which reminded us of Don Quixote and the Spanish golden age. The results were so clever and creative. Each piece of artwork is so different as you witness here the beauty of how they handled the pastel pushing it to beyond it's limits.
Enjoy the Art and Hasta Luego,
Mr. Chris

The Cats Meow!! Fun Pastels of Cats by the Students in Mr. Chris' class at the Barbara A. Wood Academy of Art

Cats proved to be a good subject as you can see here in the examples from the students. Also I had to include an oil pastel by Haley she had asked me for some help on how the doll reflection would appear in the mirror. So much fun and great concepts.

Exciting New Pastel Artwork from Students at the Barbara A Wood Academy of Art in Mr. Chris' class

Just look at the exciting colors and compositions chosen by the students!! They are really looking and listening about using there imaginations and creating their own arrangements in the artwork.  Here the goal of using the dominant complimentary colors of blue and orange presented a fun challenge for the students of the Barbara A. Wood Academy of Art.
Good job everyone and thanks for your hard work!
